Music - Casavant Organ

The Christ Church Casavant organ was installed in 1960, replacing a Hook and Hastings instrument that had served for half a century. The organ consists of 2,514 pipes, arranged in 43 ranks, and has a three-manual console with pedal. In design, the organ is largely neo-classic, in sharp contrast to most organs built in the early part of this century. The emphasis is on clarity, versatility and purity of organ tone rather than orchestral imitation. The instrument is considered to be one of the finest church organs in western New York. It has been used in recital by a number of prominent organists, including the late E. Power Biggs.
